My Prayer

Another song sung by Jacques that was written in 1999. Jacques sings this after his brother, Chevalier, is thrown into jail for a crime that he did not commit. Jacques starts off this prayer for his brother, but towards the end, it becomes a prayer for the both of them.

I’m going to try putting up lyrics every week! This should encourage me to continue writing. :)

My Prayer
(Jacques)

I pray that strength will be with him,
That hope will never die.
I pray that things aren’t what they seem,
But some things never lie.

I feel his pain deep within,
I see the tears in his eyes,
As I think of what I’ve seen,
his fears I can only surmise.
My Lord, I pray, that you’ll guide him this day.

In times of troubles, trials and pain,
You have always been there.
You have sheltered me from the rain,
You have despelled despair.

Just lead him through his time of need,
And grant him strength to stand.
‘Cause if your Word we sincerely heed,
You’re make this trial end.

Guide our ways, direct our paths,
and lead us all the way.
The journey may be slow and rough,
But you are here to stay,
Always there by our side.

Teach us now to pray,
Then there’s no more need to hide.

Just Let It Be

One of the simplest songs I wrote in 1998. Its simplicity and naviety (at that time!) is probably what continues to make it special to me.

This song is sung by Jacques, a character in a storyline that I had developed. Here, he pines for someone,  but knows the love cannot be reciprocated.

Just Let It Be
(Jacques)

When the future seemed so bright,
Lost my hope, with no respite,
I ran the race, I fought the fight,
Yet nothing remains in sight.
My soul aches, my heart is torn,
Standing here, alone, forlorn.
How can I be always wrong…
I must try to be strong!

As I try to drown my sorrows,
I still always see her face,
As I try not to think of tomorrows,
Do I really know my place?
But yet I know,
she’s the only one for me.
But she does not love me,
Just let it be.
But she does not love me,
Just let it be!

I know who she’ll pick,
why must i make the same mistake…
She does not love me,
Just let it be

She does not love me,
Just let it be.

The Music In Me

It has really been ages since I’ve been inspired to write any new, innovative tunes or lyrics. While it isn’t difficult to write a melody or pen lyrics, I’ve had problems writing something with a distinct sound, different from anything I had written before. Without the inspiration for anything different, I stopped writing.

Then something changed 2 weeks back when I was in Las Vegas. For some reason, new tunes after new tunes kept hitting me as I was walking down The Strip. Some I remember, most were unfortunately lost (That’s what happens when I can’t pen or record tunes down immediately).

If we believe that the Internet can survive a nuclear disaster, then this is probably the best platform to store the lyrics for songs that I have written. Many years back, I lost a number of songs when I changed computers and it wasn’t easy to re-write the lyrics for portions I had forgotten.

More importantly, with the trip, I realised that I am able once again to write new stuff. The songs in this blog are written for a little show I want to do one day.
